We ran fast...

The inter-school cross country at Saxton Field was a real challenge. They had to run 2km. It was muddy and wet. It was the best not to wear shoes because your shoes would get very dirty. There were about 100 people in each race. It was sunny and roasting hot on the race day. Mr.Hepburn told the kids loads of techniques for the race. It was fantastic when people got their medal.

Congratulations to Mac, Jake, Bethan and Brooke who all took part in the race. Well done Jake, Bethan and Brooke who were part of a team which came third.

Rabbit Island Cross Country

My heart was pounding so hard, I wanted the race to start immediately. Finally I heard the speakers and the voices that said, "Year 5 girls to the start line please." I was relieved. I walked to the start line. There I saw a lady in tracksuit pants and sneakers. She took everyone in my race for a warm up. We did star-jumps and a quick jog. Then finally we all lined up at the start line. "On your marks, get set, go!" There was a sudden rush, everyone wanted a good placing, so did I. So I sprinted of at that point, I was in the lead and then I was over taken at the first turn. I kept my pace. I turned another corner to find myself running up steep slope, exhausted. Pine needles were wet under my feet and I nearly slipped. My legs felt heavy with the wet shoes on my feet, But nothing was going to stop me from going as fast as I could. I started to look at the person infront of me, picking them off one by one. I could hear the crowd cheering. My feet kept charging towards the finish line. I managed to pass someone close to the end. It was a mad dash to do my best. I came in 10th overall. I loved it! I can't wait for the next Cross Country. Thanks to everyone who organised the race.
