Habits of Mind

Explaining Habits of Mind....

Managing Impulsivity
Sensible people think before they act.
Do you think before you act? If you want to make a decision, it is a good idea to think about it, look at the good things (Yellow Hat) and the bad things (Black Hat).

Like when you are angry, it is easy to call someone a name but afterwards you know it was the wrong thing to do. Managing impulsivity means walking away and talking to an adult. Let them help sort it out.

Remember, think before you act.

World of Maths

Yay! Room 6 cheered as we walked along the footpath to the church. Finally we arrived at the Maths Roadshow. Everybody rushed in. A guy called nick greeted us as we rushed of in our groups. In my group we tried to do all the activites. Most of the games were fun some were kind of hard. All the games were all about maths. We love maths!

Bike Check

We are learning about bike safety. We checked our bikes and helmets with Officer Tonkin.

HUTS, HUTS, HUTS!

CRASH! Down fell a chair and a desk. People are chatting, they can't wait to build their huts out of their class desks. It was a competition: Which hut had the biggest capacity to hold people? Capacity is how much a container or a hut can hold. But unfortunately one of the desks landed on my toe, so I didn't get to go in the hut that my group made. Whaea Aroha said this was maths, but I think this was too much fun to be maths!

We found out:
The capacity of a hut depends on how we put desks together.
Capacity is about the space inside a hut or container or 3D shape.
We use capacity all the time; Can I fit everything in my school bag?, baking, using our desks, packing our lunch in our lunch boxes,...

Can you think of a time when you use capacity?

Nelson Masked Parade

It was noisy and loud. People were screaming the tops of there heads off! The Masked Parade was about to begin. It was even louder when we were walking though the ear splitting crowd. Some people shouted, "Go MAPUA!" I felt excited and nervous at the same time. At the end of the parade I yawned my head off because I was so tired, but I felt so proud. After the exciting Parade we got to take our masks and shields home.
