Lets make a timeline!

On the 25 of May we made a timeline on "History of the automobile". We learnt that if the time is uneven you do crinkled lines as if you scrunched up the paper. We had to use the important things that happened from the year 1300 to 2100. We went in groups of 4 or 5 and we decided which important things and then we would put them in order and then we would put them on our timeline in our books.

Mother should be told off for bad decision.

Little Red's mother should have walked with her through the glooming ,creepy, dark forest.

Firstly, the forest is a dark, gloomy, creepy , scary place with lots of terrible dangers like the horrible wolf. So mother should have known this was an absolutely unsafe place for her kind daughter.

Also, the newspaper reported a horrible wolf sprinting through town and blowing the Three Pigs' houses down easily. They warned not to go out alone, especially in the gloomy, creepy, scary, forest. Mother Red should have listened.

Another reason, Little Red is only a kind small girl which makes her an simple target for huge animals. We all know huge animals live in the forest.

Last of all, she wouldn’t have spoken to a dangerous stranger like she spoke to the huge mean wolf, if her mother was with her.

Therefore, Little Red's mother should have gone with her through the glooming, creepy, dark forest to Granny's house. The forest is a dangerous place, she is only a little girl, the newspapers warned about a huge mean wolf and she wouldn't have spoken to a dangerous stranger if her mother had have been there.

Book Fair Dress Ups

"Ring, ring." School had started and it was dress up day for the Mapua School Book Fair. It was like a completely different world in Room 6 because we had dressed up as favourite characters from books we had read. We guessed who everybody was. People must have put lots of effort into dressing up because everyone looked amazing. The house leaders awarded prizes, which were books, and a certificate to the most creatively dressed characters. We then paraded around the tree to show off our costumes. Even the teachers dressed up. Wow people looked cool!

Big Little Red

I believe that Little Red's mother does not need to walk Little Red through the forest because she has been a caring and responsible mother by teaching Little Red how to be safe in the forest.
Firstly, Little Red's mother had taught Little Red to go to Fraggle Rock and see Red, because this is part of their safety plan to walk through the forest. But Little Red did not do this, she just casually walked through the forest, avoiding Fraggle Rock. Bad Little Red!
Secondly, Little Red's friendly dad knew she was going into the forest. She could have yelled out for help and her lovely dad would have known it was her. She left it too late to yell. Maybe, Little Red should listen to her parents a bit more.
Thirdly, Little Red was told to keep to the path, but didn't do this. She purposely skipped into the forest, off the path, to pick beautiful flowers instead. Little Red's responsible mother told her to follow the path, but Little Red didn't listen. Naughty girl!
Lastly, Little Red had been taught not to speak to strangers. She went to a self defence class to learn about Stranger Danger. She knows not to talk to strangers, especially a big scary wolf. But like before, Little Red chose not to listen to her responsible mother. Silly girl!
Therefore, Little Red's mother is not needed to walk Little Red through the forest because they are trying to teach Little Red how to walk through the forest by herself. They have a safety plan to stop at Fraggle Rock, dad is close by working in the forest, Little Red was told to stay on the path and she has been to a self defence class to learn about Stranger Danger. Mother is letting Little Red learn how to be responsible for herself.

Magic Maths

Maths is just like another language, well that is what our teacher tells us! Every Friday we have Magic Maths, a time to solve math problems in teams. We all have to have a special buzzer noise and action to let out teacher know that we have solved the problem. The team that solves the most wins and they get a trophy each for the week.

Attracting birds to Mapua School

How can we attract native birds to Mapua School? Well we learnt about native birds such as Fantail ,Tui and Kereu. We chose the Tui to learn about. We had a goal to create something to attract the Tui. My partner and I made a sweet drink because the Tui likes nectar and nectar is sweet. On Go Green day we hung it up at the end of the field up in a huge tree. Now all we have to do is wait watch and hope.

Five frame stories

Freeze, click! Five frame stories are fun. Its hard to keep still. I think I am going to fall. 2 minutes, 3 minutes. Great shot. Now its time to load the photos on the computer. Wow! we told the story of how the Piwakawaka got their fantails using Five Frame photos. Here it is.

Five frame stories

Freeze - click - five frame stories are fun.
Next step please ,click. We do all five steps.
It’s hard to keep still. I think I’m going to fall.
It was hard to act it out.
Keeping still really hurts.
2 minutes ,3 minutes.
It took a long time to load on the computer.
We ran down to the admin block to get pictures
and stuck them in our books.

Visit to the Aqarium

Where could you see fish?
We walked into a room that had a shark mouth entrance. Touch the sea Aquarium was like another world. Richard de Hamel spoke to us about our topic, birds. We learnt that
birds have to deal with a lot of threats, most were human threats. Two human threats were wharfs and coastal housing. You could help sea birds survive by not throwing rubbish in the sea and not build houses where birds live.

Swimming skills

Whaea Aroha has taught us great swimming skills. She let us show the awesomeness of
our swimming to our parents. She is nice when teaching us good swimming skills.
At the end she would let us play in the pool.

Sunflower Competition

At home I got a kebab stick. I tied some string around the wobbling sunflower and At the end of school I picked up a small green sunflower wobbling in its small green pot. thin kebab stick. Now the sunflower won’t fall over! I poured water on the sunflower. After a few days I planted the moist sunflower in the shining sun. Every day after that, I poured the water like a waterfall on the sunflower. After a few days I noticed that the sunflower‘s leaves were disappearing and ants were crawling over it. I got the bottle of slimy, runny insect killer and poured a tiny bit on the tall stalk. I left it for for a few days but the plant’s leaves were still disappearing. So I got the packet of green sticky slug pellets. I thought that this must stop the insects now!
When we measured the sunflower, silver staples were attached to the brown shingles of my house. A few days later I gave it to someone living down my street. A month later guess what? I won the prize for the tallest sunflower! My face had a big exciting smile on it.

Statistical investigations

Last term for maths we did statistical investigations. There were five steps and these five steps were write questions for an investigation, collect and record data using tally chart, display data using graphs, make statements about data displays, write a conclusion to answer the question. My favorite part was doing the tally chart because you would write down the answers. statistical investigations were awesome! They were my favorite part of maths last term!

Statistical investigations

Where are we going to sit in room 6 for learning? We carried out a statistical investigation to find out the answer. We recorded the data on a tally chart. Our results showed; 18 wanted to sit at desks, no one wanted to sit on the floor, 4 wanted kneelers and 1 person wanted group tables. So, the answer to our question is... the desks got the highest vote so the teacher let us sit where we wanted which was at our desks.

How to carry out an statistical investigation.

1. Ask a question.
2. Collect data on a tally chart.
3. Make a graph to put the data on.
4. Results: What the graph shows. Write 2 sentences about the graph.
5. Conclusion: Answer the question.

Aquarium

Visit to the Aquarium.
Interesting Facts.

Did you know...

Sea horses had propellers on their backs.

Richard de Hamel even said, “Humans are throwing rubbish and destroying animal habitats.”

There’s an anename that sucks your finger and tickles.

Some of us even touched baby sharks.

Rewards

You Rock! Ruler of the world! Awesome Points! Rm 6 have amazing rewards for thinking. The winner of “Around the world” wins a trophy and is “Ruler of the world”. The winner of the You Rock award acts like a turtle and sticks their neck out and takes risks. Like a turtle , you need to stick out your neck to get anywhere! And if you do that you get a rock that says “You Rock!” Magic Maths day. If your group gets all the answers right ... you get a trophy for each person in your group.

Weet bix Triyathlion

At 8.30 am I arrived at Tahuna, the place was crammed with people, bikes and tents. My friends and I went in the All Blacks tent. Then it was time to go down to the beach. It was an extremely long wait, and at the end it was probably the hardest part. At last I lined up at the start line. The man shouted, “Go!” We ran off down the beach and into the sea. The sea was so rough, we got bowled over. I finally got around the second buoy and ran up the beach to the bikes. I gulped some water and put my t-shirt on. I put my helmet on. I sprinted to where you start the bike ride. I zoomed off the grass and onto the road. It was obvious I was the fastest in the group. I had to bike 4km. I passed heaps of people, but my friend Mac passed me! I caught up though. When I finished the bike, I dropped my bike and flung off my helmet. I ran and sprinted around the field. I crossed the line and got my medal!

Poetry

Writing poems was awesome. We learnt about Acrostics , Limericks, Simile poems and Haiku. A Haiku is a Japanese poem. It is three lines long and it has a 5, 7, 5 syllable structure. It’s usually about nature. Here’s an example.

Big bubbles flying,
Smaller bubble’s flying too,
They are fun to pop

A Limerick is a five lined poem they usually have a syllable pattern of 8’8’6’6’8. They rhyme A’A’B’B’A. Whaea Aroha taught us loads of different strategies to help us with our poem’s

Tui at Mapua School

How can we attract birds to Mapua School? Well, we learnt about native birds such as the Tui and the Kereru. We studied the Tui. We made nectar juice for the Tui because they eat nectar from flowers.

The nectar juice was made from honey, sugar and water. My partner Jessica, looked up the recipe on the computer. We put it in youghurt pots and used string to hang it from the trees.

At lunch time the little kids tried to destroy the yoghurt pots with sticks. Luckily they didn’t knock them off. They gave up and the nectar was still inside.

I hope more Tui come to Mapua School.

Quinney's Bush

Wizz! Bump! Splash! Quinney’s Bush was lots of fun. We zoomed to a wicked BMX track. One of us fell and crashed into another person. We emerged at the obstacle course. There were bars ropes, swings and a climbing wall. Weeeee splash brrrr. It’s cold.It was like swimming in the Antarctic Ocean. I can’t wait for the next Big Day out.
