Not so confusing maps

Wow I'm discovering Disneyland! I didn't think reading maps could be so awesome. It was like discovering another world. I reckon the key was the most helpful thing on the page. To get to somewhere, you used the key and then looked for that symbol on the map. This makes maths really fun and challenging.

Awesome School Band!

Today we sang with our AWESOME School Band (they rock.)
They were in tune, they sounded great and they were accurate.
Mark, you're a great teacher. Well done guys!

WE THINK YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE YOU USE THESE HABITS OF MIND LIKE ...
Remaining open to continuous learning by learning new songs.
Striving for accuracy because you try, try and try again to get the right tune.
Risk taking because you played in front of the whole school.
Persistence because you need to practise lots and lots to get it right.

We can't wait to hear more from you.

Making future cars in Room 6

WOW! I never knew making future cars would have been so fun in Room 6!
First of all we had identify different criteria for designing cars. We then had to use a tournament prioritiser sheet to decide the criteria we wanted for our future cars. We decided our cars had to be environmentally friendly, safe, high-tech and cheap to run. We had to create a design for our cars. Then the fun part, making our models! Some people made them out of clay, some out of cardboard and some of paper mache. Wow this was fun!

Mega-maths with the Bugs

We have been learning in maths how multiplication and division
are backwards. Our goal is to solve division problems using x facts. We are deciding to use magic with our maths and our show is going to be 27 divided by 3 and 36 divided by 3. We show our magic by using beans and putting them into groups and it looks just like magic!

Cats on the mat solving Maths!

We are learning to solve problems like 234 x 4 using place value partitioning
example
234 x 4=?
=(4x200)+(4x30)+(4x4)
=800+120+16
=936.

Bats Solving Sixes.

We are the Bats and we are learning to solve our six times facts using our five times facts. For example
6x4=? I know 5x4=20 so 6x4= 20+4= 24

Pretty cool huh! Here is a video showing this magic maths trick!

Doubling with the Bees

We are the Bees maths group. We are learning cool maths tricks to help solve multiplication and division problems. Did you know that you can use your 2x facts and 4x facts to work out 8x facts? We can show you by a magic trick. For a example...
I don't know 6x8 but I do know 6x2 = 12, 6x4 is double 6x2 so 6x4= 12+12=24
6x8 is double 6x4 so 6x8= 24+24=48

Here is Magical Maisie making marvellous magical maths...
