How can we attract birds to Mapua School? Well, we learnt about native birds such as the Tui and the Kereru. We studied the Tui. We made nectar juice for the Tui because they eat nectar from flowers.
The nectar juice was made from honey, sugar and water. My partner Jessica, looked up the recipe on the computer. We put it in youghurt pots and used string to hang it from the trees.
At lunch time the little kids tried to destroy the yoghurt pots with sticks. Luckily they didn’t knock them off. They gave up and the nectar was still inside.
I hope more Tui come to Mapua School.
